Install google chrome on xbox one4/14/2024 ![]() ![]() Some browsers also offer Browser Extensions/Addons which can be installed to give new/different functionality to your web browser. That way, if you add a bookmark with Chrome on your phone, when you get to your computer, the bookmark will be there as well. These days, modern web browsers will all have a pretty common approach to showing and browsing websites, but one major way that browsers are differentiated is by the extra features they offer.įor example, Google's Chrome browser offers a way of sharing bookmarks between your different devices - by using Google Bookmarks. It allows you to alternate between your different browsers and different settings depending on your requirements at the time. This can be very handy if you prefer to browse the internet with Javascript turned off for better security/privacy, but need it enabled for one or two sites that require it. The web browsers generally don't interfere with each other, so the settings you use in one browser won't affect your settings in another web browser. So in the same way that you might have more than one Word Processing program or more than one Music Player installed at the same time, you can also have more than one web browser installed. On some other devices, your choices may bit a little more limited for example most Game Consoles (PlayStation, XBox etc) provide a built-in web browser which can't be replaced.Ī web browser is no different to any other program on your computer, phone or tablet. You don't need to uninstall your current web browser to try a different one. ![]() On your Computer, Phone or Tablet: Yes, absolutely. Can I have more than one web browser installed? If you've always just used the one web browser, why not experiment by trying out a different browser. If Edge is as good as Microsoft thinks it is, users need to be free to discover that for themselves.Did you know that when you're exploring the internet, you aren't just limited to the one default browser that comes with your computer, phone or tablet device? There are many different web browsers available to try, each with their own benefits and disadvantages. But you know what they say about loving something and setting it free. Microsoft is correct that users really should give Edge a shot, and not stick with Chrome simply out of habit. Chrome came by its popularity honestly, and if users want to stick with it, that’s their prerogative. It doesn’t tell you which programs to run, or how you should manage your online resources. Windows isn’t a walled garden, like macOS. But you know what? That’s the beauty of a Windows PC. Granted, a lot of users are going to stick with Chrome no matter what, simply because they’ve become so familiar with it. Now that Edge runs on Chromium, you can essentially transfer every feature you love from Chrome right over. Microsoft is currently making streamed Xbox games look better in Edge. In our tests, Edge routinely performs better than Chrome in terms of resource management, to say nothing of speed or reliability. Taken on its own merits, Edge is an excellent browser, and arguably better than Chrome. ![]() What makes Microsoft’s insistence on Edge so frustrating is that the company doesn’t need to use these hard-sell tactics. Microsoft made it even harder to avoid the Edge browser in Windows 11, actively shutting down fan-made workarounds that let Windows 11 users select their own browser to open system-level web links, rather than forcing them to open in Edge. It’s a tiresome process, particularly if you’re already well-versed in the differences between the two programs. If you try to switch your default browser to Chrome, Windows will exhort you to check out Edge first. It's even more painful knowing Chrome is bringing features to help online shoppers save money. Recall, too, that Microsoft already makes it a pain to switch to Chrome after you’ve installed the program. I was able to replicate Neowin’s findings, so it seems like Microsoft is going all-in on the “shaming its users” strategy. C'mon Microsoft, you don't need Bing to warn people away from even searching for Chrome (Image credit: Future) ![]()
